As the CEO of Leena AI, I often find myself reflecting on the journey that led us to where we are today. Our company’s name, Leena AI, is quite unusual, and people often ask me why we chose the name Leena AI.
The answer is simple – it’s my ex-girlfriend’s name. Just kidding, that’s a joke. 😀
To understand the origins of the name, we have to go back in time.
There are 3 founders of Leena AI – Anand, Mayank, and I. We have known each other for the last 15 years. We were in the same wing of the same dorm room in IIT Delhi, became friends week 1 of college, and have been together ever since. The story behind the name ‘Leena AI’ traces back to a Swedish supermodel named Lena Forsén. Her face is said to be the most left and right symmetrical face in the world. In 1972, Lena’s photograph was introduced as a standard test image for Face Recognition Algorithms. So if you were to create a face recognition algorithm, you would use the photograph to test the efficacy of your face recognition algorithm.
We, back in our undergrad days, had participated in a global Computer vision competition and came runners-up. Hence, when we were looking for a name for our AI Assistant product, it was an obvious choice to go with a derivative of her name. 🙂
