The Group Chat Agent for Slack is live. Your AI Colleague can now be @-mentioned in any channel, private channel, or group DM.
We built the AI Colleague to be fast, accurate, and grounded in your own systems. Adoption still plateaued at every deployment.
Not because the AI wasn’t good. Because using it meant leaving the conversation you were already in. Copy the thread. Open a DM. Paste. Explain. Wait. Come back.
Most employees, most days, just skipped it.
Today that’s over.
The AI Colleague can now be tagged directly inside Slack channels, private channels, and group DMs. It reads the conversation around your mention — up to 30 messages, or the full thread if that’s where you asked — and answers in place.
But the interesting part isn’t that it shows up. It’s that it knows how to behave.
Public when it should be

General questions get answered in the channel, with sources. Someone asks about the T&E policy — the answer lands where everyone can see it, learn from it, and stop re-asking it next week.
Private when it must be

Personal questions get quietly redirected to the asker’s DM. Their remaining Q4 budget. Their PTO balance. Their compensation band. All of it lands in their inbox, not the channel. In the channel, only a short handoff note: “Sarah, that’s specific to you — I’ve shared it in your DM.”
Private data doesn’t land in a public channel. Not by accident. Not by user error. Not ever.
Aware of the conversation, not eavesdropping on it
The AI Colleague only responds when you tag it. Regular channel chatter, unrelated threads, file drops that weren’t addressed to it — all ignored.
When you do tag it, it reads the recent context. So “summarize the issue above” works. “What did they mean by that deadline?” works. You don’t re-explain what everyone in the channel already knows.
One question, both channels

The person who asked always gets the full answer in their DM too, with a “view thread” link back to the original mention. If they want to keep going, they can — privately, with the context preserved.
You never have to pick between the visibility of a channel and the depth of a DM. You get both.
Access control preserved
Every knowledge base answer respects the asker’s own permissions. Same rules as in 1:1. Same enterprise-safe promise. New surface.
Why this is the shift
The AI Colleague isn’t a place employees go. It’s a teammate in the channels they already work in.
That’s the whole idea, and it’s the part we couldn’t ship until the routing was right. Presence without judgment is a liability. An AI that answers everything in public, or leaks private data into a channel, doesn’t get to stay in the room. Ours stays because it knows what belongs where.
